Maui summer 2007

Since this is a weblog and will be read by some friends abroad I write in english.

Well we have been in Maui again! And it was great!. We haven’t been there for over 3 years, so quite a long time ago, but luckily it felt like it was yesterday.

We stayed in a small cottage in Haiku on the north shore of Maui. A beautiful estate with so many palmtrees, and an abundance of other tropical plants and flowers. At some parts on Maui it rains a lot and can therefor be very green.
Not that we as dutch ones want to be in the rain all the time, but we did have quite some showers usually in the morning and late afternoon.
But the funny thing on this Island with a variety of climates is you drive towards the coast and you have sun and wind. And that’s where we went for ofcourse …. The wind! And it was there every single day!

We can still jump on the board and sail over the blue ocean with beautiful views to the island and the main feature the Volcano Halealakala.

Unfortunately Gerardo had two footinjuries just after eachother and therefor didn’t windsurf the last 2 weeks. He stayed strapped in the footstrap when he fall in the water during a jibe, and that overstretched his ankle in the inside. Ya that is a real pity but you can’t turn back the time.
I admire his positive attitude to still enjoy the time and be delighted when I was windsurfing my self.

I love it there, especially the warm temperature of the water!

Some more exciting news…… We are not just with the 2 of us as windsurfers anymore……….. we got some new ones to show you!
Maura and Julie had there first windsurfcamp on Maui and they did great.
Pictures show the result.
They got to learn, jibes, tacks, 360’s, beachstart, and they can go up and down all by themselves.
Ofcourse a lot more practice is needed but it is a good start
